Position Summary

The New Hire Trainer is responsible for facilitating the new hire program, and validating skills and behaviors consistent with key job functions. This individual will deliver all training content and curricula in the areas of Environmental, Health and Safety and Department of Transportation during new team member orientation.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate new team member orientation that includes content in the following areas:
    • Orientation to Pilot Thomas Logistics culture, work ethic and attitude
    • Environmental Health and Safety standards and requirements
    • Customer service and customer requirements
    • Inventory Control, Billing, and Shipping Documents
    • On-board Electronic Recording Device (SmartDrive)
    • DOT required training
    • Understanding the industry
    • Product knowledge
  • Assist new team members in completing their new hire paperwork
  • Serve as a liaison between corporate office and new team members
  • Tailor instruction to the needs of each class without eliminating any subject content
  • Assess students ability to complete the job for which they were hired (written tests, attitude, and skills assessments, physical assessments)
  • Collaborate with EHS Department, and other instructors to adjust curriculum content based upon feedback from the field and incidents in the field
  • Conducts occasional field audits
  • Interface with business units and subject matter experts as necessary
  • Assist with tracking and evaluation of learning programs
  • Apply adult learning and development theory to learning program delivery
  • Other duties as assigned
  • *Some travel required

Typical Minimum Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and current CDL required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience as Training Instructor
  • Commercial Motor Vehicle driving experience preferred Class A or B with tanker and hazardous material endoresment
  • Experience with Hydraulic Fracturing fuel delivery preferred
  • Training experience in Safety, DOT, and OSHA preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and facilitate a classroom instructional setting
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulatory requirements with special emphasis on driver and hazardous materials regulations
  • Experience preparing and presenting skills-based instruction to professional drivers, field personnel, and management in various subject matter.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and customer service processes and procedures with focus on product delivery
  • Ability to effectively instruct large groups of individuals
  • Display a personal commitment to safety and accuracy in job performance
  • Display effective classroom and on the job training skills
  • Display highly developed people skills; personable and approachable
  • Exhibit effective verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Possess a strong desire and drive to help others succeed
  • Function as a successful member of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Environmental Requirements

  • This position requires working in a classroom setting, long periods of time standing
  • Must be able to stand, bend, push and pull at least up to 25 lbs
